The Eco Club Garden, EcuadorWe answered a cry for help and had just 48 hours to design a garden area for the community, on a former school site in Puerto Azul, Ecuador! Without anything tangible on paper they were in danger of the plot being handed over to developers. We produced outline designs to meet the tight timescale and are now keeping our fingers crossed that the project will progress to fruition. Shady walkways and shelters, children's play areas and an auditorium area for environmental fairs were included in the design, with lush sub-tropical planting such as Agaves, Cycads, and Palms. Thornhill Cemetery Extension, Cardiff. Eco Designs were commissioned in 2008 to design an eco-friendly reed bed system for Cardiff County Council, incorporating a balancing pond and overflow channels with associated drainage. Landscape elements included footpaths, a bespoke Oak footbridge and a wildflower meadow. A management strategy allowing for water testing and analysis was also produced in conjunction with the Environment Agency Wales. The project completed in 2010 and we believe this is the first such vertical flow type reed bed system for a cemetery in Wales. Pipers Way Woodland, SwindonA landscape management study was undertaken in 2010 aiming to secure a long term future for the trees in this valuable woodland promoting sustainable tree management, biodiversity and conservation. Our report detailed health and safety issues, accessibility and included a tree planting strategy to introduce new species into the woodland to encourage biodiversity. Brooklands, Milton Keynes Initially 5 show home gardens were designed at this prestigious development of new homes, incorporating many eco-friendly features such as solar panels and utilising materials from sustainable sources such as FSC certified timber. Following on from the success of the first 5 gardens we are pleased to have been commissioned again to produce a further 5 designs to have such features as low energy LED lighting, composting and recycling facilities within the designs. Marlborough Park, Swindon Landscape proposals were developed for a new Sales and Marketing Suite, fronting this unique development, along with a number of gardens to show homes. Plans included low energy lighting layouts, footpaths, car parking and with planting selected to be low maintenance and drought tolerant, to enable water savings to be made, yet providing year round interest. |
